Biographies (120 Books)

A biography is a detailed description or account of someone's life. It entails more than basic facts (education, work, relationships, and death), a biography also portrays a subject's experience of these events. Unlike a profile or curriculum vitae (résumé), a biography presents a subject's life story, highlighting various aspects of his or her life, including intimate details of experience, and may include an analysis of a subject's personality. Biographical works are usually non-fiction, but fiction can also be used to portray a person's life. One in-depth form of biographical coverage is called legacy writing. Biographical works in diverse media—from literature to film—form the genre known as a biography.

You're Getting Closer: One Year of Finding God and a Few Good Friends

By: Mollie Player

Mollie Player is just a regular person--not someone who's particularly cut out for enlightenment. However, she thinks that regular people like her can still attempt such a feat. "After all," she writes, "if whatever crazy thing I decide to do doesn’t work out, it doesn’t really matter--no one was paying attention anyway." And so, one fine January first, Player decides to conduct a year-long two-part experiment. The first part of the experiment is to finally find a few...

And so, I’ve decided: this is the year I am going to get friends. It is also the year I’m going to figure out how to pray without ceasing, to live in a state in which every action I take, every word I speak and every thought I think comes from the Source inside myself far beyond my conscious mind. I am going to communicate with the Divine, and not just occasionally—I’m going to do it all day long. I really don’t know if I will be successful but I do know this: if I’m ...

In Search of Burke and Wills : The Story of William Landsborough, ...

By: Mr Gordon Landsborough

Everyone has heard of the explorers Burke and Wills, who died when attempting to cross the Australian continent in 1861, but few will know of William Landsborough, a quiet unassuming man who in the middle of the 19th century explored and opened up vast areas of land in north-eastern Australia to settlement and farming. He was considered such a good bushman and explorer that he was chosen to lead one of the four search parties sent out to look for Burke and Wills in 1861. ...

The tragic story of the Burke and Wills expedition is now part of Australian folklore and we know the sad irony that by the time that the relief parties set out, only one member of Burke’s party, John King, was still alive. But in 1861, with none of the rapid means of communication we now enjoy, all the people of Victoria knew was that the explorers were long overdue on their return trip to the Gulf of Carpentaria. In 1860, Victoria and South Australia were involved in...
